Warm and sunny summers give you the freedom to dress in more open and breezy outfits like tank tops, shorts, sundresses, and swimsuits. However, donning summer classics comes at quite a heavy price – tanned skin. Don’t worry if you tend to tan easily, for you can use any of these simple home remedies to get rid of it. As natural de-tanning requires ingredients that are readily available in most homes, it is a convenient and economical way to get back your original skin tone.
Filled with the goodness of essential fatty acids and vitamins, coconut oil helps protect, cleanse, soothe, and moisturise your skin. It works as a natural sunscreen that not only prevents tanning and sunburn but also helps remove tan. All you need to do is gently massage some coconut oil on tanned skin in circular motions. After a massage of about 10 minutes, simply remove excess oil with a towel dipped in warm water for de-tanned and glowing skin.
Rich in lycopene, tomatoes have lightening properties and also help protect the skin from the damaging effects of the sun. Juice a fresh, ripe tomato and apply it to your face, neck, and other tanned areas. Leave it on for about 15-20 minutes and then rinse it off with water for a lighter skin tone.
It is one of the best natural de-tanning agents available, as lemon juice is high in ascorbic acid. If using the juice directly on your face sounds too harsh for your skin, then make a hydrating pack of lemon juice with either honey or glycerin. Applying these packs for 15 minutes will help lighten your skin while imparting a natural glow. You could also make an anti-blemish exfoliating scrub of sugar and lemon juice, which will help remove dead skin cells to reveal lighter and smoother skin.
Rich in vitamins C and B6, and minerals, potato juice contains antioxidants that help fight sun damage. It is also a natural bleaching agent that lightens your skin tone as well as enhances the appearance of pigmentation and blemishes. All you need to do is juice a potato, add a teaspoon of lemon juice, and apply it to affected areas for about 30 minutes. If your skin is too dry, add a few drops of honey for a moisturising effect.
Besan and Haldi Pack
Traditionally applied by brides-to-be, besan or gram flour is mixed with haldi and either milk or cream for smooth, soft, and glowing skin. Add a spoon lemon juice to this thick pack for a better de-tanning effect, and leave it on for 20 minutes before you wash it off with warm water. The rough texture of besan exfoliates the skin to promote new cell growth, haldi has natural healing properties and lactic acid in the milk aids in lightening the skin.
Containing the natural enzyme papain, papaya juice assists in lightening the skin and helps fade dark spots and blemishes. To reap the benefits of this fruit, all you need to do is mash a piece of papaya, apply the juice to tanned areas for 15-20 minutes, and then rinse it off with water.
Packed with vitamins C and E, minerals, and beta-carotene, aloe vera has potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties. It helps soothe and heal sunburn and forms a protective layer on the skin for a moisturising effect. Add a few drops of lemon juice to aloe vera and apply it on your face and neck for about 15 minutes to remove tan and lighten blemishes and dark spots.
Yoghurt Face Pack
Just like milk, yoghurt also contains lactic acid that helps brighten your skin as well as hydrate it. To get rid of dead cells and cleanse your skin thoroughly, apply a mixture of yoghurt and lemon juice on tanned areas for about 30 minutes, and then wash it off.
Keep in mind that regularly using these natural remedies will yield better results. So, instead of spending your precious time at salons getting expensive de-tanning treatments done, use items from your pantry to quickly and effectively get rid of tan.
